Prototyping access to FAIR digital objects (available)

Open data drives much of research. The FAIR principles are a set of general principles on how to enable sharing of open data. The workflow for programmatic access of such data requires developing an understanding of the API (usually with RESTful interface) of the relevant data set even if one has the relevant Persistent Identifier (PID) to access the data set of interest.

In this project, we will prototype developing software to directly download data sets from its PID by querying a Registry and on the basis of that using a plugin architecture to select the appropriate API to download the data hence obviating the need to understand the API. The development will work with toy models based on data sources such as Zenodo or Figshare.
